Board Preparation

How to prepare for CBSE Class 10 Science boards: a practical plan

Class 10 Science is one paper covering Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and most students know a good deal of it. Marks are usually won or lost on how well you practise, revise and fix weak spots, not on how many hours you sit with the book.

Quick answer

Prepare in four phases: learn each chapter from NCERT, practise its PYQs straight away, revise by rotating chapters and re-attempting your mistakes, then finish with timed full papers. Let your chapter-wise accuracy, not your mood, decide what to study next.

How should you prepare Class 10 Science for the board exam?

Phase 1: Learn each chapter properly

NCERT is the backbone: the syllabus, the language and much of what the board asks all trace back to it. Read each chapter, understand the diagrams and reactions, and write a one-page summary of definitions, formulas and key diagrams. Do not aim for perfection; aim for a first pass you can be tested on.

Phase 2: Practise PYQs chapter by chapter, immediately

The moment you finish a chapter, attempt its previous year questions. This is when they are most useful: you find gaps while the chapter is fresh. Follow the step-by-step PYQ method, and read what PYQs are and why they matter if you are new to them.

Phase 3: Revise with practice, not rereading

Rotate through chapters, re-attempt what you missed after a gap, and spend extra time on your weakest chapters. The exact routine is in how to revise Class 10 Science.

Phase 4: Full papers and polish

In the final three to four weeks, attempt timed full papers, review each carefully and patch the chapters that leaked marks. See chapter-wise vs full-paper practice.

When should you start solving PYQs?

Do not wait until the syllabus is finished. Start each chapter's PYQs right after you study it. Full papers begin once most of the syllabus is covered. If you are already close to the exam, skip straight to recent-year chapter-wise practice for weak chapters and then full papers. Waiting for "when I am ready" usually means starting too late.

How do you split time between Physics, Chemistry and Biology?

Do not split by equal thirds; split by need. Chemistry rewards understanding reaction patterns; Physics rewards numerical practice; Biology rewards diagrams and precise terms. Check your chapter-wise accuracy, then spend the most time where it is lowest. Our chapter-by-chapter concept map lists what each block tends to test.

How do you prepare for each question type?

Confirm the current paper structure in the exam pattern explained and on the official CBSE sample paper.

How do you stay consistent?

A short daily session you never skip beats long sessions you keep postponing. Ten to fifteen questions a day, with review, adds up over weeks. See how to build a daily Science practice routine.

Frequently asked questions

How many months are needed to prepare for Class 10 Science boards?

It depends on where you start, but a plan of learning, chapter-wise PYQs, revision and timed papers can be run over a few months, or compressed into a few focused weeks if you already know most of the syllabus.

Is NCERT enough for Class 10 Science?

NCERT is the foundation and the primary source for concepts. Add PYQs and sample papers to practise applying it in the board's question style.

How do I prepare if I have only one month left?

Prioritise recent-year chapter-wise PYQs for your weakest chapters, revise from NCERT summaries, then attempt two or three timed papers in the last week or two.

Which chapters should I study first?

Study them in the order your school teaches them, and use your practice accuracy to decide where to spend extra revision time.
